Image Cues

Image Cue duration, background, layering, and output targets in CueForge.

Image Cues display still images on a logical output. They are simple and dependable: logos, backdrops, title cards, signage, and emergency announcements.

Creating an Image Cue

  1. In Edit Mode, click the Add button and choose Image Cue (or press Alt+P).
  2. The cue appears as New Image Cue — rename it immediately.
  3. In the cue editor, assign an image file and choose the logical output target.

Common formats such as PNG and JPEG are supported. Use high-resolution PNG for text and logos to avoid compression artefacts; JPEG is fine for photographic backdrops.

Display settings

  • Display Duration — how long the image holds. 0 = indefinite: the image stays until the next visual cue, or until STOP or PANIC.
  • Background — what shows behind the image: Black, White, or Transparent.
  • Layer — which visual layer the image occupies. Multiple simultaneous images (and videos) compose by layer order rather than replacing each other.
  • Visual Geometry / Transitions — Fit/Fill/Stretch sizing with position, scale, rotation, and opacity, plus Enter/Exit transitions (Cut/Fade).
  • Logical output target — which project-owned output the image appears on. Open Output Mapping opens the projection-mapping editor for that output. See Outputs, Displays and Commissioning.

Warning: An image with an indefinite Display Duration never completes on its own. If it is also set to auto-advance, the show would stall — preflight warns about this combination. Give indefinite images a deliberate clear point (a following cue, a Stop Cue, or the operator’s STOP).

Show Mode behaviour

When an Image Cue fires in Show Mode, the target output shows the image at its layer and geometry. With a finite duration, the cue completes when the duration elapses; with duration 0 it holds until cleared. Blackout (B) hides visual output; PANIC clears everything.

Troubleshooting

Image not visible

  1. Verify the output window is open (press O).
  2. Check the cue’s logical output target is bound to a physical display — a Missing binding is reported in preflight and Settings, and content is never silently moved to another display.
  3. Check the image is not sitting behind another visual cue on a lower layer.
  4. Run preflight to catch missing media.

Image looks wrong

  1. Check the geometry settings (Fit / Fill / Stretch) in the cue editor.
  2. Verify the image resolution matches the output display.
  3. Confirm display calibration and colour profile in the venue.
